One of Mexico’s most magnificent beach enclaves is now easier to reach than ever. Alaska Airlines is excited to announce the launch of new non-stop flights from Los Angeles to La Paz, starting November 20, operating three times a week. This new route offers direct access to one of Mexico’s best-kept secrets, where the desert meets the sea in a breathtaking landscape, offering seasoned travellers seeking a vacation experience away from the crowds.

La Paz is home to the exclusive residential and tourist resort Puerta Cortés, offering visitors direct access to pristine beaches with clear waters and rich marine life in one of the most biologically diverse bodies of water on earth. The resort also features premier golfing, hiking trails, and a variety of dining experiences with authentic local gastronomy, creating a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. Recently, Puerta Cortés unveiled its first upscale hotel property: Hotel Indigo La Paz Puerta Cortés, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury collection.

Here is what travellers can expect at Puerta Cortés.

Completely renovated hotel: set against the stunning landscapes of Puerta Cortés, the newly renovated Hotel Indigo features 115 meticulously designed rooms and suites. Guests can enjoy a range of amenities, including in-house restaurants Barco and Cardón, the relaxing Espiritu Spa, a fully equipped gym and wellness programmes, an outdoor pool, and exclusive access to the Puerto Beach Club and El Cortes Golf Club.

Vacation rentals: Puerta Cortés offers a variety of luxurious vacation rental options. Vistamar features 47 ocean-view condos and 16 villas with spacious layouts ranging from 2,589 to 5,370 ft², high-end amenities, and stunning Sea of Cortez views. Las Colinas is a gated community of 70 Mexican country-style homes near the El Cortes Golf Club, offering direct access to resort amenities, a clubhouse, swimming pool, and barbecue garden. Playa de La Paz, located on Playa El Caimancito, boasts a boutique collection of one to three-bedroom ocean-view residences and three-bedroom penthouses. These homes feature expansive living spaces, large terraces, and gourmet kitchens, blending classic architecture with the natural beauty of Puerta Cortés.

Golf: Puerta Cortés’ crown jewel is Mexico’s only Gary Player Signature golf course. Gary Player is one of the “big three” of golf, along with Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. The El Cortés Golf Club received a Certificate of Environmental Excellence from the Profepa for how they irrigate the golf course in an eco-friendly and sustainable way. Golfers can play 18 holes with unparalleled views of the Sea of Cortez.

Exclusive beach club: the Puerto Beach Club provides a private beach, infinity pool, and a host of amenities, from fresh seafood and tropical cocktails to beachside massages and thrilling water sports like paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkelling, and catamaran tours.

Ecotourism: Puerta Cortés is a haven for ecotourists. Visitors can swim with whale sharks, visit the sea lion colony at Los Islotes, and spot dolphins, orcas, humpbacks, and grey whales. The area, known as the “aquarium of the world” by Jacques Cousteau, hosts hundreds of fish species and a third of the world’s marine animals.

Dining: Puerta Cortés offers a rich culinary experience with fresh seafood and Baja cuisine. Highlights include succulent fish, shellfish, shrimp enchiladas, machaca tacos, and Mexican street food. These dishes can be enjoyed at the relaxing Beach Club, and Hotel Indigo’s Barco and Cardón. The region is particularly renowned for its exquisite Kumiai oysters and sustainable marine practices, celebrated annually at OysterFest. This vibrant festival brings together top chefs, showcases sustainability initiatives, and features cultural events, making it a must-visit for food enthusiasts.

Sustainable efforts: Puerta Cortés leads in sustainability with initiatives like a desalination plant, solar panels, water-saving devices, and a comprehensive wastewater treatment system. The complex also uses biodegradable materials and electric transportation via golf carts, supporting biodiversity and local communities.
